The Pros and Cons of Book Trailers

Here's an interesting New York Times article by Pamela Paul on the pros and cons of book trailers. These days, it seems to be a necessary element of book publicity, but how effective is it, really? What do you all think?

  1. I did a book trailer for Zen and Xander Undone, and it has gotten about 200 hits on You Tube. How many of those hits actually translate into sales? I have no idea. No one really knows why some books are hits and some books fizzle. I think plenty of books that fizzle have very fancy video trailers, and plenty of books that don't have trailers become best sellers. The point is to try as many things as you can, to increase your chances for sales. Every little bit helps.

  2. I like to follow writer’s blogs as I feel I learn from each one. I have a book of Communion devotionals at the printers which I authored, although I don’t consider myself an accomplished writer. I am a follower on your blog and invite you to follow mine as well…and please leave a comment when and if you visit.

  3. Actually, you gave me an inspired idea for...a book trailer before the book is finished. Why the bleep not???! Who knows if they're useful. They can be fun...
