Hey all,
I got a late start on posting this today, so I'll be doing the Back FROM the Future blogfest hop all weekend.
You’re up before dawn on a Saturday when the bell rings. You haven’t brewed your coffee so you wonder if you imagined the sound. Plonking the half-filled carafe in the sink, you go to the door and cautiously swing it open. No one there. As you cast your eyes to the ground, you see a parcel addressed to you…from you.

You scoop it up and haul it inside, sensing something legitimate despite the extreme oddness of the situation. Carefully you pry it open. Inside is a shoebox—sent from ten years in the future—and it’s filled with items you have sent yourself. What’s in it?
My painting of a hedgehog family |
It would have to be a HUGE shoebox, because I'd want to put in my future paintings and drawings, as well as my future books, which would help direct me to what I should be focusing on now.
What would YOU send back to yourself?
A copy of my published book. Hardcover. Yes, that would be nice. :)
ReplyDeleteMoney and common sense.
ReplyDeleteThat painting is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'd send my books back to myself. :)
A box of common sense, sounds wise. Thanks for the nice words about the hedgehogs, Kelly.
ReplyDeleteYes, Candilynn, a hardback version of your published book!
Yeah, how could we not send ourselves our future books and a little encouragement. :)
ReplyDeleteAn old-fashioned charm bracelet; random Post-It messages and notes from my daughter (i.e., in the days before texting); birthday cards from marker years; a small figurine of Yoda; postcards and photographs from trips.
ReplyDeleteI thought about making my box bigger so I could send back a couple guitars!
ReplyDeleteYour hedgehog painting is gorgeous. I wish I could paint like that! As to what I'd send back to myself, it'd be my books and a letter telling me I need to hang in there cos I would make it farther out. I would.
ReplyDeleteAlex, sure, why not, use a shoe box from the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk. Claudine, yes, a "hang in there" message is always useful! Deb, post its from your daughter-how sweet!
ReplyDeleteThat would be clever! And if your future self had passed on, then your art could be worth a lot of money! I think. Still trying to grasp this time traveling stuff.
ReplyDeleteA detailed list of everything I'd always wanted to accomplish and instructions on how to make it happen. In other words, realizing my dream before it's too late.
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun to think about! I would probably send myself clues to what my life is like and hopefully a clue of something to invest in in the next year so that I could come into some money. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
~Jess
Hmmm, but if you sent yourself all the paintings and books you're supposed to do over the next ten years, will having them right there in that box actually prevent you from doing any additional work? After all, what supposed to be done... is already done. And if you were supposed to do any additional... it'd be in that big ol' box. Interesting conundrum.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great painting. I didn't send myself anything that good.

I'm an artist too, but never thought of sending back my paintings or drawings. I'm not sure I'd like missing the creative part of the process, when you don't know how it will turn out. . . a conundrum for sure.
ReplyDeleteVery cute hedgehogs! I am guessing you want your future artworks for the reassurance that you do keep painting :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely painting, Catherine! I guess I'd send a novel I've published, and a heads up on those little things that at the time seemed like big things - so I know what to sweat over and what to let go off sooner.
ReplyDeleteFuture paintings and future books sound wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome idea of what would be in your box from the future! Love the painting!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I missed this one on Friday, sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for stopping by today.
