New book covers, image fest frenzy!

I've been busy updating my Facebook and blog banners, and having new covers made for Fireseed One and Ruby's Fire. I love the digitally painted covers Jay Montgomery made for me, but photos are more contemporary and teen. Since I'm going to try and get them in schools and libraries, I feel it's a good move. Here they are, designed by the amazing Najla Qamber. Pretty, huh?
Below is a new teaser for Dorianna she designed. I'm in an image fest mood for sure!

Dorianna launches on OCT 24, and the tours (Bewitching & Evernight Teen) both start on OCT 27. You're all invited to the Facebook party on OCT 29. Click here to join.

I've been thinking about what I feel like posting on this blog in November and December. I love helping out other authors for sure, yet I do want to post more content about writing.

Especially since I'll be doing NANO. I've been so busy teaching (which I also love) that I have not had time to work much on my work in progress, a paranormal historical about a young witch, who doesn't even know she's a witch at first... I blazed halfway through a manuscript during the summer, and lately my mind is turning back to it, a lot! Plus, I'm headed to a writing retreat weekend very soon at the very beach town it's set in: Asbury Park. I can't wait to be there when the hotels are empty and the beach is cold and desolate. Not kidding.

Do you like photos more than illustrations for covers, or vice versa? Are you doing Nano too? If so, you are welcome to find me over there and be a writing buddy. I go by CatherineStine at Nano. What have you been up to?

  1. Your new covers are awesome! I do prefer illustrations, but those fit the genre and were done really well.

  2. The new covers fit the genre quite nicely and they are beautiful. I base my preference on the genre. I prefer more illustrated for MG stories. Some YA, depending on the content, would do well to have illustrations but photos are more apt for YA novels and above, exception being fantasy, for me.

I'm NaNoWriMoing but am still in the air about signing up to do all the daily tracking and stuff. I sounded so wishy-washy just then lol!

  3. I think some genres do really well with illustrations, like fantasy (particularly epic and sword and sorcery) and middle grade, but I do like digitally manipulated photos too. I love your new covers!

  5. LOVE your new covers! They are amazing :) I'm not sold one way or another on a cover--it really depends on the cover, and book, which way I lean. But yours look awesome!

  6. I can't say I have a preference for photos over drawings. All I care about it the design and if it captures me.

  7. I think your new covers are fabulous!! Illustrated covers are very hard to do well, and it's probably a little easier for photos to have that modern look teens like. Congrats!

  8. I LOVE your new covers! I do like illustrated covers, too. Curse of the Granville Fortune has an illustrated cover and I couldn't love it more.

  9. What gorgeous covers! I do have a preference to photographs, but there are certain epic fantasy and urban fantasy cover artwork that I'm in awe of. I don't think I'm going to have time for NaNo this year because I lose two weeks of the month to family visits. Yet I might try to do the challenge as my revisions.

  12. I like your new covers. As old-fashioned as I am, I personally prefer hand-illustrated covers to modern digital images. I think part of the appeal for me is that it lets the reader use more imagination in picturing characters and/or setting, instead of having an exact representation.
